ode to the trees

 _MG_8008_MG_5054_MG_3296 _MG_2936  _MG_4805

today is the celebration of trees over here, what a genius thing to celebrate! trees are investments. it can’t be mentioned too often. last year i helped with planting a few trees on the westbank and one little cherry tree at my sisters.

but if you can’t plant one, hug one!

hardly life-threatening

_MG_8677 _MG_8692_MG_8717

cravings: spinach. red wine. colored lips. snoozing at least one more hour. pictures. attention. quiet. long talks.

simple wishes, little dreams realistic enough to come true, and if they don’t it is hardly life-threatening.

at the barbers

_MG_8647_MG_8654_MG_8655 _MG_8653_MG_8666_MG_8663_MG_8656

just around the corner from me i found this little barber-shop where it seems like time is somewhat standing still. i am always charmed by those places, full of ambiance and history. i was waiting outside with my nose pressed against the window for a while before i dared to enter with my camera. i am still practicing! how about you, what are you practicing these days?

killing time

_MG_8613_MG_8634 _MG_8631_MG_8642_MG_8630

killing time in the studio. usually, there is no time to be killed during our working days. we hardly have time to take a pee… but then sometimes, for some obscure reason, it happens and we find ways to amuse ourselves. like this thursday, dalia was teaching dani how to tango and i was playing with my camera. anyone out there who knows how to tango? or who knows how to dance salsa? i would be happy to learn both. kisses to all of you!

weekword/recycle

i posted a few pictures on this topic a while back. and since then, the recycled collection has grown, only i have very little picture proof of it at this very moment.

have you heard about the waste hierarchy? reduce, reuse and recycle.

according to the waste hierarchy we should/could first of all try to reduce our consumption, and to use less in general.reminded me of the ‘buy nothing day’ and of how i was handing out flyers against consumerism on the dutch equivalent a few years ago. i would say we need to consume less every day of the year and not just one, but it is a start as good as any.

secondly, we should/could try to reuse. giving items ( bought 2nd hand or received from give and take markets etc)another life cycle. this is easy enough, just think thrift stores. flea markets. side walks. containers. basements. granny’s attic. peoples closets. there are plenty of treasures to be found, ready for a new life, as long as we keep our eyes open.

and last but not least on the list of hierarchy we have recycle. to take wasted materials, process them and thereby creating something new. composting is a great example of recycle. and in this case, it even counts as upcycling, since the utility after is equal or higher than the waste matter.

that’s it for now! a little mini-lecture from my side. check out elisabeths place for more posts on recycle. have a lovely weekend!

charm the cookie monster

_MG_9281

apropos pastries and such, tonight, on my way back from food shopping  (=once i finally stopped procrastinating and got my ass to the supermarket i was wandering the lanes up and down in lack of inspiration and focus and left with edamame and chocolate bars) i squeezed inside the coffee shop down on the corner. the guys were already done cleaning and about to lock the place up when i begged them to sell me some coffee. they were really accommodating while i needed to empty my two bags of veggies on the floor in search for the wallet, little miss messy, and meanwhile the guy asked me if id like a cookie for on the way. of course! i can’t say no to cookies, plus those are one of my favorites (!) golden coconut clouds melting on your tongue. so i chewed, smiled, paid, repacked and was just about to leave when he handed me a bag of those little miracles “for after supper”.

damn, that guy sure knew how to charm cookie monsters. i was totally impressed.

dough&clay

_MG_8578   _MG_8604_MG_8583_MG_8582_MG_8586

lately i was playing with the thought of becoming a baker once i am done with dancing. i could enjoy that, kneading dough, making crusty loafs of bread and cinnamon buns all day long. i would become nice and round, eating ridiculous amounts of bread, pastries and butter. definitely some of my top favorite things in life. bread, pastries and butter. perhaps it would be a good idea to find out whether i have a high cholesterol or not?

i am still caught in the dream i dreamt and fighting that never-ending cold. life goes on. yes it does.

it’s hard to keep track of you falling from the sky

 old mirror _MG_8567mirror 2

do you know that feeling when you dream a dream, wake up, and the rest of the day you are transformed, still living that dream? that’s what happened to me this night. i dreamt something extremely intense and real, so rich in details that this entire day i am trying to understand what to do with this dream in reality.

perhaps the vivid dreams are caused by the copious amount of snot collected in my head? or my swollen sinuses pushing on my brain?

while on that subject, i am trying to read up about the immune system, thinking of how to improve mine. while listening to this.

sweet weekend

_MG_8537

i made a bunch of photo-summarizes of 2010, one photo for each month, 12never shown, 12xthings i have eaten, 12xportraits. was reminded of how intense last year really was. knowing life, it might just continue like that. each time a bit differently, but still.

this weekend i am hiding under the blankets. my body is hosting another cold. what doesn’t kill us, makes us stronger, right?

another potential

_MG_8368

home on wheels. and in the snow. actually this one stood next to the other one i saw, but then i didn’t notice. so the camouflage indeed works. as if you have a tiny little swedish, red cottage, like everyone else. only you can drive away with it if you’d like to.

only the bare essentials would fit in there. i would need to start the project of sorting out and getting rid of my belongings…

first week of the last push will be over today. time flies.

drip

_MG_8144 _MG_8112_MG_8145

it rained the morning after i arrived. and last night aswell. i am talking to the clouds, asking for more of those healing drops. there are plenty of traces all around me that the earth is thirsty. erosion and dried out oranges. perhaps the new year will finally bring a decent winter climate?

stay warm. be good.

tuesday

_MG_8459  _MG_8438_MG_8429_MG_8441

back to lentil soup and rehearsals, to sore muscles and cold toes, to a street which is all but quiet, to construction work everywhere, to construction workers who pray on a piece of cardboard next to the working place, to date syrup, to strawberries who are about to be in season, to houses that are colder than those in sweden, to an outdoors which is warmer, to piles of laundry, to compost-walks *didn’t build my compost yet*,to city-buzz, to mountain air, to falafel for lunch, to honking horns, to talkative vegetable-sellers…….

last push.

enjoy your day. i hope.

white and bright

_MG_8223 _MG_8414 _MG_8376 _MG_8185_MG_8164 _MG_8181_MG_8356_MG_8385_MG_8394

those six days flew by and i am reminded of how i hate goodbyes and i am sorry to tell you, all of you who are frozen and cold for months already, that my winter-dosage is only partially filled and returning to my little temporary home seems less than charming. i am also aware that once i had some time to adjust and to land, i will rediscover the beauty over there aswell. but still, many of you are too far away.

and i wonder if i will ever stop this traveling?

i had some lovely meetings this week, like with this very precious woman, and i could connect the corners of the pictures and my jaws felt sore from talking afterwards. it is special, when these blog-fairytales becomes reality. perhaps a good intention for the coming year, more of those real life meetings?!

but now i am already here, caring a cold with me i kept sneezing throughout the whole flight. in a few hours i am waking up to go to rehearsal. so let’s call it a day. nightynight.

IMG_1266IMG_1276

and so we are about to enter a new chapter, 2011, one more left before that scary number of 2012. lets hope it will be a fruitful, healthy, harmonious and adventures year. let’s stay awake and present. that’s what i wish for all of us. thank you all for stopping by, sharing your thoughts and feelings, supporting and reading. i never could have imagined it being so much fun and giving to have a blog. love&hugs.
