spring greens and it is not strange to say i miss you

_MG_0475_MG_0496_MG_0472  _MG_0495 _MG_0502

in hebrew, it is not strange to say you love and miss someone, even those you actually do not know so very well. it took me a while to understand that certain inflation in the language. there are no kilos of expectation tied with saying ‘i love you’.

in swedish,it might take years before you say ‘i love you’, and it seems extremely heavy when i ask är du lycklig?’. and in dutch, i am afraid to say ‘ik mis je’. the more hebrew i learn, the more i appreciate the way germanic languages uses words like cushions, to soften their effect. the adding of a tiny ‘please’ or a gentle ‘may i’ makes any sentence easier to digest.

when using all of these languages together, the borders are getting fuzzy and i mix up the ”rules”. my swedish is by now somewhat rude and my hebrew is careful and polite. my dutch is lacking attention and my english is like a quilt consisting of different parts from each language.

oh, all this blabbering about language, i got carried away thinking about it and felt i wanted to convey it…. looking at branches there is no need for words or the luggage of words. nice and silent. happy saturday♥

continuation:more of those

Beatrice Kennedy, bröllop

self portraits. the one object to photograph that you always carry with you. sometimes it would be great to leave yourself behind, only for an hour or two. although it would be pretty lonely…

…which made me think of this text:

“Nobody loves me, nobody cares,
Nobody picks me peaches and pears.
Nobody offers me candy and Cokes,
Nobody listens and laughs at me jokes.
Nobody helps when I get into a fight,
Nobody does all my homework at night.
Nobody misses me,
Nobody cries,
Nobody thinks I'm a wonderful guy.
So, if you ask me who's my best friend, in a whiz,
I'll stand up and tell you NOBODY is!
But yesterday night I got quite a scare
I woke up and Nobody just WASN'T there!
I called out and reached for Nobody's hand,
In the darkness where Nobody usually stands,
Then I poked through the house, in each cranny and nook,
But I found SOMEBODY each place that I looked.
I searched till I'm tired, and now with the dawn,
There's no doubt about it-
NOBODY'S GONE!!”

i have quoted him before: here, here and here.

the romantic life of a construction worker

_MG_0128  _MG_0191

layers of clothes, rubber boots, ear protection and a rain coat. *rain is back. again.* concrete in my hair and pockets full of screws. i have spent the last two days putting tiles in what will become the bathroom. one of the biggest lessons in all of this must be not to let anyone convince you that you can’t do things (that you have never tried before) on your own! because you can.

week 38

old belly

her belly seems to be getting bigger each day. we so wonder who’s inside? the third family member and the main reason for a rushed and intense house building project.

i have been invited to join the delivery, if timing allows it…inshallah! all of a sudden it seems like it would be a very special experience, to be present when your close and dear friend gives birth.

but now, back to work. wishing you a full but calm day.

a few days ago, the day before that, and another day before that day

we had a heat wave passing by and snow feels so far away again. i got a few new freckles while working in the sun. removing layers of clothes from the winter pale and shy skin. always such a strange feeling, to rediscover your skin again.

i notice that when i photograph while being stressed or uncomfortable my photos are less sharp and in general a lot more boring. like a symbolic lesson for life itself. breathe. take your time. use a steady hand. rushing rarely saves time. i practice to sneak up on pictures like a prey in the jungle…being discrete and silent. while keeping my borders straight. can you follow my line of thoughts?

rainbow of greens

to quote first aid kit: ‘so much i know, that things just don’t grow, if you don’t bless them with your patience’

sunlight, water, rich soil, compost, love and caring hands. not more and not less.

remember where we are

_MG_9674_MG_9671_MG_9677   _MG_9694_MG_9705_MG_9708

waste waste waste. so much waste. and such a waste of time.

i am eating books and drinking water. or arak with juice of pomegranate *in special occasions only*. i have one swedish friend here, sweet as sugar and hilarious. we eat marzipan and laugh about our rusty swedish. while a homeless woman sleeps on her doorstep. such intense contrasts here.

and more about those contrasts, i will soon show you some photos from the construction site. building someone's home is truly inspiring and exciting. makes me want to build my own…one fine day…?

7.50

_MG_9522 _MG_9615 _MG_9126

stormy, stormy weather and stiff muscles. it went from spring to winter again. no weekend for me, but instead trying to keep my whiskers high while walking straight.

silent minutes are underestimated, and umbrellas are overestimated. that’s all for now.
